Frequently asked questions
FAQ
When is the best time to book my due date?
The sooner your due date is secured, the better! This ensures that I will be available for you. To do this, a non-refundable retained must be paid in full. That secures your due date and on call time.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! I whole heartedly believe that everyone deserves birth pictures! I don't want cost to ever be a factor in which someone may choose not to invest in them. I do require the retainer to be paid to secure your date but payment arrangements after that can be worked out. I want to make sure this special service is tangible for everyone! With that, I hold onto your photos until the balance is paid in full. Once the balance in paid, we will schedule your reveal!
Do you only photograph homebirths?
No, all birth stories deserve to be told! I would say that I photograph more home than hospital births but I do both. Even C-sections!
Do you photograph c-sections?
I have not had the opportunity to do one yet, but they are absolutely on my bucket list! C-sections are births too!! Those stories should be captured as well. I think it's incredibly special just like any other birth! It is also healing for mamas who may have had things not work out as planned. With this, the family will have to discuss having me present with their care provider and be a strong advocate for themselves. We can go over this in more detail if this is something you are interested in.
What if im not comfortable with sensitive pictures being taken?
You are in complete control of the photos that I take and present to you! I respect that not everyone is comfortable with the more graphic images. When you fill out your questionnaire, there is a place for you to discuss your comfort level, expectations etc. I do find many times, moms change their minds later or are the fence about wanting photos from all angles. In this case, I can separate more sensitive photos into a different folder for future viewing. Pictures can be taken from the provider view, your view or both!
what pictures are shared on social media?
When you sign your contract, you are agreeing to allow full use of your photos for marketing purposes. With that, I only share photos that are non identifiable at first. When you receive your gallery, you will have the option to mark private any photos that you are not comfortable sharing. I use that as a guide for any marketing and sharing!
Can i book last minute?
While I don't recommend it just because it doesn't guarantee my availability, I have had several families book me within a few days of their due dates. If I can be there, I absolutely will unless I am on call for another mama.
When do you go on call for me?
I officially go on call from 38 - 42 weeks. In this time, I stay close to home and ready to go! If there are other complications or issues, we can address those situations as needed. For example, some mamas go into labor at 37 weeks. This is something we can discuss and make plans for. If you go into labor outside of your labor window, I will still do my best to be there!
When do I call you to come?
As we all know, births can be unpredictable and there is no perfect answer BUT I work for you and I will come anytime you think you need me to! That is what you hire me for. I am really big on good communication so as we get closer to the big day, I will continue to check in with you and also expect updates with appointments etc. Usually, my clients will text me anytime them feel like labor may be starting so we can keep track all day. Labor is different for everyone but many times, contractions will be low and crampy. They tend to be timeable, grow in intensity and sometimes are paired with the loss of a mucous plug. If your contractions are unbearable and you have to stop talking to work through it, call me! I try to somewhat follow the 4-1-1 rules which is every 4 minutes, lasting for a minute long, for an hour. At the same time, I want to document you laboring and not just the baby being born lol so when in doubt, call me! I will drive to your house every day for a week if every day of the week you think labor is imminent! That is what you hire me for. I will also shop in the area or sleep in my car. I would take 100 false alarms over 1 missed birth! Depending on your distance from me or past birth experiences, some of these things will change and we will tailor our birth to fit those things! You can never bother or annoy me and my phone is open at any time of the day or night! That even goes with questions about birth and labor in general. I'm not a provider by any means but I have had 3 babies and been to quite a few births.
